I do feel this thread has been over zealously moderated and in particular the removal of SirAlecs very personal and heartfelt post.

Yes, it has gone off track to some extent but it was a contentious OP open to debate.
Mine doesn't either, Mamy, 23, spent two years in Oz, a year working in London...back in Ireland now, at college, working and saving to go to America.
Ahhh right, gotcha, I missed all the removed replies, so therefore couldn't work out how we'd jumped from one topic to another.
you know the nationality of those then, wow.
HaHa...hadn't thought of that TTT....
umm irony right ?
You were the one complaining that most of the answers were off the subject ?

So many have been deleted that there seem to be five runners in this field.
I've just looked at the photos, not a pint glass in sight. I gather it's offensive to some people to see young women, scantily-clad, daring to get drunk and enjoy themselves.
I'm not keen on tattoos either, but it's their choice. I think a lot of the dresses are classy and I wish I could wear them as well as these women do. From some of the photos, it looks as though it was a windy day. Not their fault if they show a bit of leg. If they were all in burkas, some men would still be offended by the showing of a bit of sexy ankle!
were any of the horse races any good ?

Errr...no I didn't!!
obviously no French/Italian Women have tough stickers either.
dave50, I grew up in Bedford where a fifth of the population is Italian and I can assure you that they have no more class than any other nationality.
And I'm not long back off holiday and can assure you that class and nationality don't go hand in hand.
Most of those tattoos are feminine, pretty butterflies etc and their dresses are pretty too. The choice of hats are rather, well, choice. Odd. Attention seeking. I' d worry more about what the Italians and French thought/dressed like if I were French or Italian. Leave the ladies alone.
Sorry to go off subject again, just want to say that I love Alwaysconfused's avatar. That cat's expression is fantastic!
European women dress much the same these days, very little between them. If you go to cities they dress much the same, generally very nicely be it London, Paris, wherever.
The paps hone in on some of the less attractive aspects and suddenly it becomes the national way of young women dressing or behaving...rubbish!
I don't know about you, but everyone one I know, knows how to dress appropriately for the occasion, young or old.
It's a vary dated to think that there are certain European women who dress better than others, it's simply not the case. Good and bad all over Europe.
Why are these women supposed to be representative of the whole of Britain?
You must be blinkered.
"Most of those tattoos are feminine,..."

A contradiction in terms, IMHO.

Regretfully many people (men and women) have no idea how to dress appropriately for a particular occasion but, perhaps more importantly, have little idea how to conduct themselves either.

The photographs in the article jogged my memory. I attended "Glorious Goodwood" the year before last. Much of what I saw was far from glorious. Most of the "revelry" on display was simply alcohol fuelled boorishness. Those involved had consumed so much alcohol they had little idea what they were doing. Most of the women were padding about barefoot (mainly because the shoes they had chosen to wear were totally unsuitable for a day at the races). The men were little better. Their consideration for their fellow racegoers was precisely zero.

The standard of dress seen at these events goes along with the standard of behaviour. People have not been taught that you do not dress and behave at a racecourse as you would in a tatty nightclub. Dress and behaviour is not moderated to suit the occasion and so it seems from the photos in the article.

I’ll not be frequenting Goodwood again. The Chavs are welcome to it as far as I’m concerned.
^I agree with NJ.
They can only be finding it difficult to dress classy if classy was the look they were going for. Not all cultures prioritise the same things. And in any case, surely "classy" is a description open to interpretation ? I suspect all feel they are in a class of their own ;-)
It's not Royal Ascot, the Derby meeting has always had, how to put it, a more 'carnival' atmosphere.
