Can anyone advise please. I attended an Occupational Health appointment regarding a health issue which is currently being made worse by my work in the NHS and Occupational Health suggested two reasonable adjustments to my employer, can these be discussed with your line manager/management team before I return to work to ensure that they are agreed?

I have been advised by several medical professionals that if these adjustments are not made then my health would get worse and that I need the changes in order to get better. The changes are temporary whilst my health improves. I have been signed off sick due to my health whilst I started a new medication and got over the terrible side effects.

I have spoken with work on the phone regarding the adjustments and have been told that they 'cannot discuss the adjustments with me until I return to work' but I have been advised that if the changes re not made then it will be detrimental to my health. This has come up previously and changes were never implemented hence my health getting worse and my wanting to agree before I return.

Is it true that we cannot agree on changes before I return?

If you are signed off sick they should of course talk to you about this. If you'd had an accident and were in a wheel chair would they make you roll in to reception before agreeing you shouldn't work on the top floor of an office with no lifts?
it probably purely comes down to your manager.
I agree with bednobs, get off health to write to you with their advice. Forward that to hr dept saying you want to come back but need these adjustments and ask them for their advice. Again I'd do all this in writing and if you do have phone conversations drop them an email just to confirm what you spoke about and agreed.
Ask them to provide the Occ Health recommendations prior to return and ask for a written response. You could take out a grievance if they won't discuss making any reasonable adjustments prior to your return. Note that the adjustments must be reasonable and Occ Health is not in a position to decide what is and is not reasonable for your employer as this would vary according the the type and size of employer. Everything in writing now.

OH has had many years in NHS, and her opinion is yes they should discuss it.
