///The two attackers, who said they were from the so-called Islamic State (IS), slit Fr Jacques Hamel's throat during a morning Mass, officials say.///

I tuned into that thread about the world going to pot, since Bowie died, when it had only 5 posts in it but was too tired to draft a reply. Revisited the tab just now but got "Couldn't retrieve that thread", so it must have gone downhill really quickly. Seemed harmless at the time so there's no knowing what topics will end in deletion. Perhaps a named celebrity attracts search engine results and AB doesn't want first-time visitors to get a bad impression of the place?
I'm quite sure that the priest is relieved to know that he didn't lose his head over this "incident": He merely had his throat slit...Much better, right?
Apart from this one:
Treat others as you would like to be treated and respect other people’s opinions. Discussions can get passionate but users should moderate their language and refrain from personal attacks and profanity. We encourage lively debate but name calling, harassment or abuse will not be tolerated.
I think fear and anger can bubble over and make people post in a way that seems antagonistic - of course passions are high and we all worry for those we love and despair at the horrors of murders such as today. However falling out amongst ourselves won't make for a reasoned discussion.
There will have been a reason a thread went, maybe not one all agree with but a reason all the same.
