I was in a department store today and they were unpacking their Christmas decorations and getting ready to put them on display. This while the weather is sunny and 19 degrees. I`m sure I don`t remember shops pushing Christmas on us in early October when I was a child. Ridiculous.

I was in M&S last week an spotted Christmas guff :-(
It's all over the top now and families need to buy week by week.

SJ...people must be buying them or else the shop would not waste the shelf space.

I think maybe people are buying them because they are on the shelves rather than the other way around. I don`t believe that customers are demanding to buy Christmas decorations in early October. It`s all about marketing.
We should just ignore it all and go mad on Christmas Eve, like we used to do.

How can you save up for Christmas when it starts earlier and earlier each year? I've only saved £25.00 so far!
Thing is, for most of us on a monthly wage, from September there's only 3 wages in which to buy stuff.
I drove past an Iceland this week, and they had giant Santa's in the windows!
M&S had cards and paper on sale, but then their origin is Jewish....

When the shops push Christmas stuff it tends to have the adverse affect with me. It puts me off the whole thing. It`s a shame really.
I think this Topic, gets posted about this time every year, unfortunately.
I agree with 'rejection' - as a 100k point Sparky, I got their Xmas catalogue five days ago; the wrapping has not yet been opened and probably not much before the end of the month. Christ, the heating ain't on yet.....never mind Mary being pregnant.
Home Bargains couple of weeks ago had one aisle with Halloween, other side ws Christmas, next. isle was lights and crackers!

In Poundworld today dog advent calendars as you go in, and Halloween stuff in the shop.
One of our local stores had the Christmas trees in the 'Christmas Department' up and decorated last week.
Question is Naomi - will you be brave enough to buy a turkey from your high st butcher? :)
:o)
237SJ....in the days when we still had Woolies, they used to put Xmas decorations up for sale in late August !

I agree about what you say regarding marketing. Shoppers lost the discretion that they once had, by the shops shoving things in our faces. If they sold Easter Eggs later this week, they would fly off the shelves.
now a good time ?? lol
I've just completed the Christmas work rota, another jolly Christmas Day working for the NHS!
On the upside, I haven't heard ♫ 'Well here it is, Merry Christmas.'♫..........yet.
