According to an article by Charles Saatchi in last night’s London Evening Standard (sorry, I’ve looked but I can’t find a link), scientists say that the limited number of genes that influence facial features mean that most of us have a doppelganger somewhere in the world. Have you ever bumped into yours – and if so, what was your reaction?

Whilst we may have been born with identical facial features, the areas we live in, our upbringing and our immediate environment, smoker, non smoker etc. would significantly change our appearance, skin tone etc. Also age differences would play a big part. I dont imagine my doppelganger has a long white beard. So no I have never met mine and to be honest I think even without the beard we wouldn't look very much alike if he existed.
I haven't met mine, but my sister says she served a woman in her pub who looks exactly like me.

There is a woman in my town who looks exactly like my sister, except for her hair colour being slightly different. Whenever I see her I have to look a couple of times to stop myself rushing over to talk to her.
When I was in the sixth form in secondary school, a first year pupil appeared who looked exactly like I did when I was that age. We just ignored each other, as boys in all-boys' schools did in the early '70's.
No! Nobody is unfortunate enough to look like me.
Except for me, of course.
I never met her...but I should have run a mile when my future 1st husband showed me a photo of his former gf. It was like looking in a mirror...and a bit creepy.

Yes, quite a few people have seen her, thinking she was me or vice versa, but I've never seen her.
I haven’t but I know she exists. I was descended on in Tesco by a whole family who said they were delighted to see me again and how was the family, were we all back from Australia or just me? It took a lot of persuading them that I wasn’t having a joke and that I really had never met them.

I have.
I had noticed strangers letting on to me in the street, who I didn't have a clue who they were.
One day I went in the pub to watch United, and the Landlady said "Dave, you're already in" and pointed into into the room. There was my double.
After the match I went over, and he joked to his mates "This is the b**** getting me into trouble.

While not a lookalike, I once found a wallet dropped in the road. When I opened it, the person had my exact same name, and had the same bank cards.
I haven't but when I was in Whitby earlier this year a woman gasped and went quite pale when she saw me standing waiting in a car park and she came over to tell me that I am the image of her dead friend. She was very shaken so I hugged her (didn't know what else to do) and she went off still looking very shaken. I think I was a bit shaken too and was worried that I had done the right thing for her. She was a Scot and I am from Kent so unlikely to have met before or to do so again. Very odd.
I haven't met mine - but 3 people (over a space of 20+ years) have sworn blind that they have seen me in different places the place I was at the time. Hope I'm never accused of something and am identified in a parade. :(
Yes, I was about 14/15 and she was the spitting image of me. Most unnerving for both of us.
Perhaps your doppelgänger was in the past?

Just yesterday I saw two pictures from a hundred years ago. One that was the spit of Nicolas Cage and one of John Travolta.

I have never met or seen mine but years ago someone at work told me they started talking to me the day before and it took her a couple of minutes to realise it wasn't me.
Close - my outlaws found a car salesman near them in the States and I must say it was quite a shock - some linkage in the past of his family to the Lakes as well...though nothing we could nail as to name.
Jo Brand's is her brother and vica versa.

I've never believed in the 'everyone has a twin somewhere in the world' theory. It is just as likely to have none or more than one person(s) in the world have similar facial features, especially if they come from the same area families lived in - but are not necessary officially related.

If there's any mercy in this world, when they made me they broke the mold . . . if it wasn't already.
. . . did I spell that right?
