Picking up on AOG's comment on another thread, I thought I would open this up to you all.

What needs to be done to make GB 'great again'? What went wrong and when, or do you think that there is little to worry about?

espookid

"As you might have gathered I don't live in the UK any more"

Says it all really doesn't it !
Curious to know the Utopia in which espookid lives.
espoo - tho one you mentioned. The OP's content clarified the exact meaning intended - to put the great back in great britain, but....the great as in pride. Several people have now pointed out that the OPs interpretation of great is incorrect.
Somewhere foreign I expect !
Mikey What exactly does it say ? Does it say that I cannot know ? Does it say that therefore I must know ? I really would like to know
Wherever espoo lives, the vino must be stronger than average.
Sorry I hadn't seen your last post Mikey and that really does say it all ! If you know I live somewhere other than the UK and it must be "foreign "

Zacs-Master - have you got the 'proof'? :-)
Zacs you hit a sore point because the biggest fault living here is that the country has a monopoly on strong alchohol (above 4.7%) sales and booze is expensive and it is too early for even me to be drinking yet!
wiki:
The Greco-Egyptian scientist Ptolemy referred to the larger island as great Britain (μεγάλης Βρεττανίας - megális Brettanias) and to Ireland as little Britain (μικρής Βρεττανίας - mikris Brettanias)

Brittany has also been referred to as Less, Lesser or Little Britain (as opposed to Great Britain).[2]
espookid....by your own admission, you no longer live in Britain....perhaps you should leave any further comments to those of us that still do.

For my part, I wish we had better weather and I wish our Social Care system and the NHS was better, much, much better. I wish the xenophobia that has resurfaced over the last few years would go away. I would like more of our essential infrastructure to be back in public hands.

But I wouldn't live in any other country in the world.
Encouraging people to take responsibility for themselves would help. Britain has become a nation of wimps and moaners, too many wanting something for nothing because it is either their ‘right’ or they are ‘entitled’.

The discussion about the meaning of ‘Great’ detracts from the question. It’s quite clear (to me at least) what the OP is talking about.

Naomi24 - thanks. I thought it was obvious too given AOG's original comment on your thread!

//Britain has become a nation of wimps and moaners//

Can't argue with that Naomi.
Putting the "great back into Britain" is as meaningless as "Making America Great Again"

Its just a soundbite, thats all.
I believe Espookid lives in Finland.
The great in Great Britain ? Maybe by putting the united in the United Kingdom first?
I think the contention by myself (and others if I can speak for them) was that the word was never intended to be used as a reason to be proud of Britain.
Maybe we should be proud that we embrace multiculturalism and consider it as a way to make Britain 'great'. Maybe we should be proud of the way Mrs May is tackling Brexit?
The best way would be to get rid of Scotland, Wales and N Ireland and call it England

Talbot - I think you might have started something there!
