Hallo all,
Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to put my question.

This is about Tax Returns Self-Assessment on line.
Until 2015-16 Tax Returns, I have used the help of an accountant.
He filled on-line for me. I have never done it myself before.

I retired last year. I have not much income to declare as it is only the pension money.
So, I want to fill the tax returns on line. Thus saving the accountants fees of @600 pounds.

I have MY UTR number, Govt Gateway user id, (registered last year) its password.I have my National Insurance number.

However, I have struggled today more than two hours to register for Self-Assessment. It is saying they cannot recognise me as they have inadequate information to confirm.

I tried ALL their web advice and watched the video etc. Still I am unable to REGISTER.
I tried to telephone HMRC. No luck it is all recorded answers.

Can anyone suggest what mistake I might be doing in my inability to REGISTER?
I received the notice to complete tax return by post only yesterday.
Also do I need to get any information from my accountant in filling this years tax on line by me?
Thanks a lot. Very much appreciate your advice and help.

This might help:

However, since you've got a Government Gateway ID, it occurs to me that you might already be registered for self-assessment. In which case the system will reject you trying to register again.

See if you can sign in here:

(If you're offered the chance to 'set up extra security', click 'Not now' and repeat on the the next window; it's probably best not to complicate things at the moment!). If you see a 'Complete return' button then you're already registered for self-assessment.
