How do people become Community Leaders? Who elects them? Is there even a vote?
I have never lived in a community that had Leaders other than elected local and national politicians.
Is it just an immigrant thing that is a part of their culture brought with them from their country of origin?

Hi Theland, long time no speak!
I think we do have many communities in Christian churches.
Or is this just a wind up thread?

Leland, I have known you for a long time, and we've had many email chats in the past, but I never knew you were a trouble-stirring racist. You disappoint me.

Where I live (in the north of England) we have lots of community leaders, but it is the sort of place where everyone talks to everyone else, and say ‘Howdo’ to strangers.
Community leaders are self appointed, and usually get the job because they put themselves forward for everything, and generally want to be the centre of attention.

We also have a Bangladeshi community, and I think their community leaders gain position on age, seniority and religious position.

I imagine if you are part of a community in a foreign land, or you are born into such a community, that it is natural that your community has a representative or leader.
It is the same in most groups, sports, trainspotting, WI, Morris dancing. Where there is any group, a leader will emerge (if they are wanted or not).
Thanks Gromit, I couldn't think of any community groups before, Theland had frozen my brain with surprise!

Well, there are lots of ways to find out 'how to' if you're interested.

Community Leaders come from many backgounds and cultures and represent all types of people.

An example of some here.

If you feel your community needs leadership, call a meeting and set about it.
Thanks Mamya. Always the voice of reason whenever I'm struggling ♥

I cannot see anything wrong with Thelands' OP, he/she is just asking a valid question, to get called a trouble stirring racist by Bathsheba is completely out of order.
To my vague surprise, I seem to have become one of the local 'Community Leaders' if that's what you want to call them. It doesn't feel like that. I'm on the PCC, so help to organise a lot of and do a lot of leaflet delivering etc., and also on the committee that tries to keep the Community Centre open, same workload. There are fewer than 400 people in our village and a base £2K a month is needed to keep church and Com. Centre going. So it is hard work, which I do for the village - and it's good for me to be very busy.

Various circumstances, just before Christmas, meant that I was suddenly the only person in the know over an event and I found, to my horror, that people were looking to me to organise and lead them through it. I suppose that that is how you become a Community Leader, simply by working for your community.

Bathsheba, my black daughter in law whose roots come from Sudan would not agree with you calling me a racist. She would however totally agree with me that the impact of Muslims on our country is detrimental, due to the fact, that although the vast majority are law abiding, there is a sizeable minority that runs int many thousands, who see their Muslim duty as the spread of Islam by proseletyzing or jihad, and some forms of jihad involve violence against us, the Kufar, or Infidels.

As pure democracy is a new concept to Muslim immigrants, and anathema to fundamentalists, it is no wonder that these community leaders are self appointed. A challenge to them would likely mean crossing the local Imam, and what Muslim would want to do that?
