Did any of you see the BBC documentary on Grenfell a few days ago?
Beyond words. We saw a shattered community holding each other together in the glaring absence of any local or central government help. All religious communities working together with no hint of disdain or exclusion. The fire service, and later the police, doing what they could, devastated though they too were by what they were forced to deal with.
And anger. Hot, justifiable anger, at every aspect of a totally avoidable tragedy.
We should salute and respect this west London community.

You have it right there JTH, as with most major catastrophes that are not nature related is is usually down to the perfect storm of errors.
The problem with this is it is difficult to 'learn lessons'. True we can prevent this particular event but probably not a similar one which has a different twist.

danny: as your post at 1235 says "I did not watch the one on BBC. Did it by any chance mention how many offers of accommodation had been turned down?" and seems to be a very cheap jibe, totally uncalled for on a thread dedicated to saluting and respecting a community, I think people are ignoring it.
// PeterPedant, take a step back dear. You've lost the plot again.// yes ma'am thank you ma'am
how many offers were turned down?
not mentioned in the prog.
I was struck at the difference. The Londoner were saying - no one cares for us - something must be done for us
Whereas in Manch - people just got down to it
( whilst the risk-averse emergency services (Kerslakes expression not mine) stood around and said - "you meant to be doing dat den - dangerous in dere den...")
- but people didnt lose their homes, they were just sort of dead ....
