Don't own a tv, currently not listening to any radio but apparently England have managed to kick a ball about quiet expertly for the last hour or so ...big deal!
Just why do people get so exited about a football match?
Am I odd in not giving a fig?
I am genuinely NOT interested in what my 'tribe' has achieved tonight.
Sometimes it feels good to not be a part of the pack....

If it were Rugby I would most likely be there, but it's only Football,
so who cares?
There are lots of people like you who don't follow any competitive sport - that's your pack.

Doesn't really matter.
Some get excited over football
Some get excited over plastic coppers

It takes all sorts...
Why are evocative words like 'tribalism' only used in relation to English football? Would it be appropriate to use it in relation to, say, and African team, the fans of whom are just as keen? I don't 'give a fig' about many things about which people get excited but to each his/her own.
It always prompts a wry smile when people who are most emphatically not interested in something post a thread about it.
Oh I don't think it's just football, Westhoughton Tiddlywinks Society is very big on tribalism.
Why not make up with your son instead of denigrating our national pride?
Is it tribalism? To me sport is the only thing left we are allowed to be patriotic about.
I am not a football fan, but cannot help getting caught up.
I don't think it is a 'tribe' thing.
I'm EXTREMELY concerned about my tribe's fate tonight.

Losing to India, in the T20 competition at Old Trafford, was terrible!

Er, there wasn't any other sport on tonight, was there?
Football is very popular sport loved by many, it's even better if your team play well and succeed. I'm bit suspicious of men who dislike football ,:-)

Why?
‘England have managed to kick a ball about quiet expertly for the last hour or so’

You deffo weren’t watching were you!
I've not been following it passionately, football isn't my thing, but I caught it tonight and I enjoyed it. It's human nature to be competitive both individually and tribally, that's why you have to watch overt nationalism with a weather eye, but this was just a feelgood thing. Lads from our country went and did well. nothing to understand really, it was just nice.
It helps to make my tribe stronger in the face of attacks by other tribes.
Take your pick.
// not interested in something post a thread about it.//

yeah I like: I have no comment make about this thread
and I think - derrr you have just made one

I DID find the game watchable tho'
and da boyz done good
No World Cup for Allah - We won already.
I totally understand why you're not interested, nailit. Not everyone is, but for those in the country who are, a good performance from our lads out in Russia would give the nation a real lift. You may not believe that but i can assure that the people of Burnley are buzzing because The Mighty Clarets have qualified for European football for the first time in over 50 years. Okay, so we've gone and drawn Aberdeen in the 2-leg qualifier - but it's still Europe- ish.
Yes ken Aberdeen is in Europe right enough :-)
anne; To paraphrase The Beautiful South; "This could be Aberdeen or anywhere, Liverpool or Rome, 'Cause Aberdeen is anywhere, anywhere alone"
