Free Money, What Was Going On?

Walking past the university this afternoon a young man approached me and said he and a group of friends were conducting an experiment. He asked if I'd accept a £2 coin.
I said I would and told him I'd put it in the collection box in a nearby charity shop.
Students are on summer break so I don't think it was any kind of psychology research. Any ideas?

I'd have been tempted to ask for more details whilst accepting the coin as you did and donating it.

I did get the coin and went to the nearby charity shop to put it in the collection box on the counter.

I admit I do have a haggard and dishevelled look after my last long walk. I might look like a beggar.

No questions. The charity shop is about half a mile from the front of the Uni

I guess they were testing to see if people would actually accept it or not, very unusual though.

Now that would have been a test of my character. Would i have kept my word and give it to the charity?

I volunteered the fact that I was going to give it to charity.
Had it been 50 quid I might have had second thoughts. The test would have been of my own resolve.
