What the heck are you people arguing about?
// Sajid Javid, a Home Secretary who swore his oath of political office on the Koran. //
Seriously !? And this was OK ? There's nothing more to discuss.
Your country is seriously screwed ... but Canada is trying very hard to catch up.

That's absolutely correct. All MP's must swear either an oath of allegiance or an affirmation of allegiance. This is done at the beginning of the Parliamentary session following the general election. The text for an oath is:The current standard oath of allegiance is set out from the Promissory Oaths Act 1868 in the following form: I, (Insert full name), do...

danny, //It is not abuse to swear on the Koran. //

You needn't have bothered running next door. I didn't say it was.
Naomi, in the US, congressmen and at least one judge were sworn in on the Koran. You are making an assumption without proof.
I'm giving my opinion.
from your earlier post:-
. If Sajid Javid used the book solely for that purpose he abused it.
I know what I said.
mmm. "If Sajid Javid used the book solely for that purpose he abused it."
So perhaps naomi is relying on the 'fact' that he is a paid up Muslim so it wasn't abuse
Deja vu. Naomi says something . We question it. She says we made it up. I point to the words she said and she says something bland like "I know what I said" or "that's your interpretation".
It's not really meaningful debate is it
FF, I didn’t say him being a fully paid up Muslim is a fact. I don’t know if he is or not – but I’m of the opinion that he is. If he is Muslim, then swearing on the Koran wouldn’t have been abuse – but I thought I’d made that clear anyway….
FF, //Naomi says something . We question it. She says we made it up. //

Again, you did. I didn't say it was 'fact'. Deju vu? You can say that again! You can't help yourself.
Before anyone else jumps down my throat.

*Deja vu*
You think he's not a non-practising muslim, because he swore on the Koran, which would be abuse if he was a non-practising muslim but not abuse if he was a practising muslim?

I feel dizzy.
^ditto^
You are really off form today, naomi.

You said "Despite what he says, he is a fully paid-up Musllm."

You have just said: "FF, I didn’t say him being a fully paid up Muslim is a fact. I don’t know if he is or not – but I’m of the opinion that he is."

I recall you saying the other day that you deal in facts not opnions. Mmm.
So it's an opinion which you can't substantiate. Not a fact. So you could be right or you could be wrong. You don't know.
These are Javid's actual quotes on "faith":

1. Launching a report on religion's impact on public life he said: 'Faith is undoubtedly a force for good.'

2. Describing his own background he said: 'My own family's heritage is Muslim. Myself and my four brothers were brought up to believe in God, but I do not practise any religion. My wife is a practising Christian and the only religion practised in my house is Christianity.

'I think we should recognise that Christianity is the religion of our country.'

3. Asked whether he reads the Quran he said: 'No, but how many people call themselves Christian and visit a church? God and Allah are the same thing.'

4. Javid takes a firm line with Islam's responsibility for terrorist attacks, saying it is 'lazy' and 'wrong' to suggest terror has nothing to do with Islam.
FF, //I recall you saying the other day that you deal in facts not opnions.//

Where did I say that? You wouldn't be massaging the 'facts' again, would you?

In my opinion he’s Muslim. That’s it really.
in my opinion I'm a size zero - doesn't make it so though.
Spungle's link shows Javid swearing on the Quran go to: 15:06:52
on here: https://parliamentlive.tv/event/index/5e7b64c4-a3a9-4a4c-b30e-e66bfe0ad24b?in=14:55:40

It is interesting the respect that the Clerk has for the Quran- it is placed in a special bag, and she doesn't pass it to the MP, but allows them to take it off the desk themselves.
FF, //So it's an opinion which you can't substantiate. Not a fact. So you could be right or you could be wrong. You don't know.//

Don’t be silly. If I could substantiate it, it would be a ‘fact’ – but since I can’t it can only be, as I said, an opinion – obviously. And yes, I could be right, and I could be wrong …..and you’re right again …. I don’t know.

Found that quote yet?
Rockrose, //in my opinion I'm a size zero - doesn't make it so though. //

If anyone's told you it does, they're kidding you.
