Yes absolutely, the more the Liberal media and celebrities hate him the more likely he is to win.

I think a large factor in Trump's success was less that the electorate wanted him than that they didn't want Hilary Clinton - the least worst option was what they had to go with.

So a similarly large factor will be the ability of the Democratic nominee to offer something different and better to Trump, and make the electorate believe it.

An uphill struggle, but not an unwinnable ne, given that this is politics, and President Trump has shown himself wilfully proud of his position in not understanding what politics is about - and that could cost him the presidency next time round.

The problem Trump has is that he relies on a pretty limited core of support.
That support didn’t get him a majority even last time although it didn’t matter of course. Somehow he’d need to broaden that support to have a chance. Whether he can do that depends on the state of the economy and the state of his opposition. Given that we don’t know much about what either of those will be like at the time that matters then it’s impossible to say.
All this assumes he survives that long of course and may depend what else emerges about his various dealings, but that’s also impossible to predict just now.

Not sure that’s fair Douglas. The idiocy wasn’t so much that trump got elected as that the system allowed someone like that to get the nomination of one of the main parties. The democrats weren’t a million miles from electing their own rabble rouser too. Any presidential system runs that risk.

*Ahem* Well I have a well-documented history of being completely and utterly wrong in speculating about Trump, so...

I think it's too early to tell. The Democrats have a huge range of candidates at the moment and I'm too unfamiliar with them to guess at who might have a chance at beating Trump, let alone who has a chance at securing their nomination. Then there's the sheer number of people connected to Trump who have been prosecuted for various corrupt dealings. It's not impossible that this could come to include his son between now and the election and if that happens then who knows what could come out. Then of course there's also the chance that the President (who is already visibly obese and allegedly eats McDonalds all the time) could eat himself out of office.

Then again, he could surprise everyone like he did the first time round and scrape through another victory. The US electoral system does tend to advantage incumbents over challengers, so if he does run in the election then he will have that working to his benefit.
