If they've been aggressively avoiding tax, they've been doing the bare minimum to help thus far, also I doubt there's enough money to bail everyone out. If that's the case this looks like as good a method as any to decide who deserves the help.

It’s not as simple as just looking at the tax those companies pay.

I realise they employ people, and those people pay tax, but as I said, there's a limited amount of money available and it has to be allocated on some basis.

If it’s allocated ignoring companies who employ a significant amount of people then it isn’t very prudent to Denmark’s future economy.

he's asset-rich and cash-poor, like a lot of people, including me (my house is worth far more than anything I've got in the bank). He hasn't got enough money in his own pockets to rescue Virgin Atlantic. He hasn't demanded a handout, he's asked for a loan and offered one of his biggest assets as collateral.

Does the government want the airline to survive or would it rather leave BA as the only big UK airline? Virgin Australia has gone into administration leaving Qantas unchallenged and 10,000+ staff in limbo; would it help the UK economy if the same happened here?

Older travellers may remember what airlines like BA and Qantas charged before they had serious competition.
