Just heard on the 6pm Radio 2 news that trick or treating, Diwali, bonfire night and Remembrance Sunday have all been cancelled in the north west of England due to Covid 19. Anyone able to elaborate on this, please?

I'll certainly be glad not to hear fireworks. If true, it will be a shame about Remembrance Sunday.

Convinced i heard 'north west' APG.
And, before the pedants come out to play, i realise my typo in missing the 'c' out of cancelled :-)
I doubt many parents would have allowed young ones out to Trick or Treating this year anyway and with the good practise there's been the other events can be arranged in other ways.
I have put a link to the Northwest.

If community bonfires are banned, it will mean everybody and his uncle having one in their back gardens :-((
And i'll be eagerly awaiting the format for attending Remembrance Sunday parades and such.
"large-scale events" banned; 15 or fewer okay with a council permit. I don't know how far trick or treating is a large-scale event, but I suppose it could be.

Gosh, there's even a Lancashire Resilience Forum. I wish I had one of those.
we should all take care of our 'c's Ken
wasnt there a tv cook called Ken Wong? perhaps Ken's wok - is it on now - No. Ken is out of wok .....

now suppose you said - "I was reading about Ovid last night"
and I cd say " oh really! quis neget carmen Gallo! we dug up some of his ( Gallus that is!) poetry up on a papyrus in 1980 in Egypt ! Ovid writes about him in Eclogues 6 and 10" (*)

and you could riposte !
" I happen to know that Gallus was a poeta durus ( difficult poet) and didnt mention covid in 20BC!

squish! I wd be silenced! - - and all due to one little 'c'

(*) "In Eclogue 6 Gallus ascends Mount Helicon's literary landscape with the poet-shepherd Linus as his guide. Remarkably close in detail to Apollo's initiation of ..."
Cnut couldn’t control the c.
Luckily he COULD shift the U ...
Have you taken your tablets today, Peter?
We are just planning Remembrance Sunday (E. Yorkshire) so, so far so good (lot of 'so's' there!). As a whole, the village is going to decorate houses with poppies etc. and the plan is to be out at 11 a.m. when someone will toll the church bell. Distancing is easy.

The church is trying hard to work out how to celebrate, pay respects carry the standard etc.. OH is the oldest surviving ex-serviceman, so he usually carries it to the War Memorial, which is in the church porch. We could do the whole thing outside and that should be OK.

I'm sure we can organise a tribute of sorts - but I'm exercising my brains as to how to organise some sort of collection to benefit the B.L. and Help4Heroes. Can't really just leave a box in the bus shelter (unused 'cos there is no bus, but a useful covered spot). Any ideas welcomed. At the mo. I'm thinking of placing people around the village with a donations box - but it's far from ideal - could be pouring down.
Huh in that case Minty I'll not be able to pay you a surprise visit then.
If people will be having bonfires and fireworks in their gardens then I will have to take the dog to the vet's for heavy sedatives. I mean it, he cries and shivers all evening - and that's with the occasional firework going off.
Just realised you said north west. I'm down south so not applicable. Not yet anyway....
Maybw they should ban the sale of fireworks this year. Might stop the yobbos letting them off in the underpasses around here at 2am.
^ That would be a brilliant idea, but unfortunately we've already had them going off round here.
