It's taken you this long to work out that Judas and his action was vital to allow Paul and others make a large following for that religion ? That surprises me.
Eve - In my experience, all followers of all religions pick the bits that they feel comfortable with, and jettison the rest.
No problem, that's just human nature, but if you find you are agonising to the levels that a few on here do, I'd suggest you just let it lie, it's not worth getting yourself into a state over.

Judas had a choice about whether to betray to Jesus or not. He had freewill like we all do. Ultimately God knows everything, so knew that Judas would sin in this way.
Its a paradox. When I get to heaven I expect to be able to debate with God after Free will, predestination etc. Maybe the discussions will go on for millions of years at a time
