My contribution - Tim Henman's comment that early tennis courts were and new one's should be oriented North to South to minimise exposure to low sun in the eyes. Another form of a compass on the landscape such as churches offer in being lined west to east.......

Is that a bit like feng shui...the orientation may bring good...or bad...luck.
I was looking at a video about Earth Houses in Taos New Mexico...built entirely of rubbish. So I started looking for weird building materials...
