I think this is a very important move to keep history in perspective.

The ignorance of some of these people is staggering; recently Queen Victoria's monument was attacked on the spurious grounds that she had links to slavery, when all connections to Slavery was abolished in Britain 30 years before she started her reign in 1837!

Also, every one of us had some kind of at least tenuous connection to slavery if only through one of our ancestors putting sugar in their tea, or wearing a cotton shirt,

I saw a meme the other day that had these words;
History is not there for you to like or dislike
It is there for you to learn from it and if it offends you even better
Because then you are less likely to repeat it
It is not yours to erase
It belongs to all of us

SB; Quite!
I will never grasp this rubbish about tearing down statues
As Stephen Fry recently said just put a small write up underneath explaining what that persons role or relevance was and their part in history whether it be good or bad or controversial
Hitler would consider his own ‘achievement’ to have been the horrific attempt at eradicating Jews from Germany yet I do not see Auschwitz being torn down
You learn from history and hopefully do not repeat its darker occurrences

I think explaining history is going to be the plan. Prof. Robert Tombs is a very good historian at Cambridge, he writes often in the Spectator & is keenly Eurosceptic.
//...& is keenly Eurosceptic.//

That's good enough for me. Fine man!
yes someone needs to wake up and take on these LibFac types.
Yes, I will most definitely support them. This is a very welcome breathe of fresh air in what has become a sickeningly toxic atmosphere.
Yes, you can't change history, remember and don't repeat.
