During the height of the pandemic, I lost my job and got kicked out and when I tried to find a friend to help me move he said "I would rather hangout at the beach then help you move." Because he had the day off that day. I then had to rent out a room with no washing machine. That's crazy.

Yes, I do. The panic buying shows just how selfish we've become.
Dinkus; I don't think that person could have really been a friend.
I've not noticed any change in the levels of (or absence of) selfishness - and I've never had a washing machine!
It’s been quite the opposite here in Ireland, Dinkus.
Would your problems have happened pre COVID?
Covid brought out the best in some people and the worst in some people
The Bible at 2 Timothy 3:1-5 says it all.
I haven't noticed tbh but I have definitely noticed more angst around some people I know.
Maybe your friend values his leisure time & thought that helping you move would be to much of a chore. I tell friends - ask me anything you like, but don't be upset if I refuse. Nothing to do with covid.
Yes definitely. Also the 'I'm alright Jack' attitude is much more prevalent. Its as if some folk have gone into survival mode.
yes - I get someone else to do my washing....

as for the friend - happens I am afraid. Ask for help and they say no. No news there

fren' My fren' (X) helped someone move (Y) and I tagged along since I was weight lifting then and prepared to do heavy work. Piano on finger tips up stairs stuff ( usual)

later X said - Y threw a party to thank everyone who helped him move and didnt invite. 30 y 40 y ago

No favour goes unpunished
The Bible at 2 Timothy 3:1-5 says it all.

come on do us the goodness to quote it in English
we have had it before:
and in these last days it will be shown there are difficult times

well I am sorry I see nothing about moving house without help:
[ oh yes yes there is: the difficult times refer to the moving house without help
well buxton as far as I am concerned]
