Have You Ever Been Tricked By Someone Claiming To Be Able To Contact The Dead?
319 Answers
Driving home today I was listening to Jeremy Vine interviewing A J West about his new book, 'The Spirit Engineer', which examines, among other things, the reality or otherwise of the spirit world and the trickery used by charlatans to convince people that they are actually contacting the dearly departed. Mr West threw out a couple of 'cold' readings and asked listeners to phone in if they thought anything he said referred to them personally. I arrived home before anyone called so I've no idea of the outcome. Interesting nonetheless.
So … have you ever been tricked by a trickster - and when did you realise you had?

I don't necessarily go along with the explanations psychic researchers come up with - it can only possibly be conjecture - but I do know that odd things that cannot be explained happen. I'm in no doubt whatsoever about that.
Having just received news of a forthcoming wedding that delighted us all it was very significant to me. It was Mendelssohn's Wedding March. I didn’t recognise the phone number but a few days later, having grilled all likely suspects and eliminated them, still puzzling over it I mentioned it to a friend. She asked what number it came from and we were both astonished to discover that it was her phone - one that, not being big on technology - she kept only for emergencies and never switched on unless charging it. She'd been to a wedding that day. Her phone was in her bag on the floor of the church and as usual, switched off. The odd thing was that there were no other sounds on the recording - no coughs, no shuffles, nothing to indicate a church full of people. Just the music played on an organ. It lasted five minutes seven seconds precisely, starting at the beginning and finishing at the end. Quite extraordinary.

The phone was off. Had your theory been the right one, the phone would have had to switch itself on, dial my number (which wasn't in its memory), wait to get connected, record the music from start to finish exactly, disconnect. and then switch itself off again. That, I think would be the most unlikely explanation of all.
APG, right, you'll poo poo whatever I say anyway. I don't have an explanation, coincidence probably also ear worms tend to be song not one word. Do you have earworms that don't happen to be a name that later comes up? What do you think it was? A message from ......who? I can't explain these sorts of things because I don't have all the data, people tend only to relate the parts that support their argument. I can't explain how most magic tricks are done but I know they are tricks.
TTT I think it was energy from the girl who died horrifically a few miles from our home (she was in a car with her brother that jumped a stop sign and she was killed instantly by an HGV coming the other way, her brother survived) I think in those last seconds she probably was thinking about her baby, and I have a gift to pick up that energy, like a radio wave. When it first came to me I was thinking more about Australia (Sydney) than a girls name, I have never heard of a baby called sydney).
These messages are not friendly two-way conversations, they are often one or two words, or even a feeling' rather than narrative. I can't explain it, I just accept it. What I don't do is offer my services for money. I'm also an exceptionally good Tarot reader but that's for another thread lol!
