Driving home today I was listening to Jeremy Vine interviewing A J West about his new book, 'The Spirit Engineer', which examines, among other things, the reality or otherwise of the spirit world and the trickery used by charlatans to convince people that they are actually contacting the dearly departed. Mr West threw out a couple of 'cold' readings and asked listeners to phone in if they thought anything he said referred to them personally. I arrived home before anyone called so I've no idea of the outcome. Interesting nonetheless.

So … have you ever been tricked by a trickster - and when did you realise you had?

TTT, I've no idea how it happened. I don't necessarily go along with the explanations psychic researchers come up with - it can only possibly be conjecture - but I do know that odd things that cannot be explained happen. I'm in no doubt whatsoever about that.

Having just received news of a forthcoming wedding that delighted us all it was very significant to me. It was Mendelssohn's Wedding March. I didn’t recognise the phone number but a few days later, having grilled all likely suspects and eliminated them, still puzzling over it I mentioned it to a friend. She asked what number it came from and we were both astonished to discover that it was her phone - one that, not being big on technology - she kept only for emergencies and never switched on unless charging it. She'd been to a wedding that day. Her phone was in her bag on the floor of the church and as usual, switched off. The odd thing was that there were no other sounds on the recording - no coughs, no shuffles, nothing to indicate a church full of people. Just the music played on an organ. It lasted five minutes seven seconds precisely, starting at the beginning and finishing at the end. Quite extraordinary.
sounds like a pocket dial to me, al be it in the handbag, clearly the phone was on briefly and dialled you during the wedding march. Occams Razor once more.
my phone once dialled err indoors and she could hear me talking in the club. She had to phone the club landline to tell me!

The phone was off. Had your theory been the right one, the phone would have had to switch itself on, dial my number (which wasn't in its memory), wait to get connected, record the music from start to finish exactly, disconnect. and then switch itself off again. That, I think would be the most unlikely explanation of all.
ok but there is an explanation. What is your theory, some sort of message from the other side? How do you know the phone was off? how do you know your mate isn't playing a prank or someone who knows her and you didn't set it up? I could replicate that very easily.
TTT I've asked you to explain my experience (page 2 17.02) and you have chosen to ignore it. Please explain this, if you can't then I suspect you think it's a lie, I was daydreamer or tanked up on dry sherry, none of which are true.
APG, this is a long thread, sorry I missed it, I'll get right on it.

TTT, I don't know how it happened - but it certainly wasn't a prank.
APG, right, you'll poo poo whatever I say anyway. I don't have an explanation, coincidence probably also ear worms tend to be song not one word. Do you have earworms that don't happen to be a name that later comes up? What do you think it was? A message from ......who? I can't explain these sorts of things because I don't have all the data, people tend only to relate the parts that support their argument. I can't explain how most magic tricks are done but I know they are tricks.
APG, I cannot explain what you experienced but as you weren't even aware the woman had an eleven-month old named Sydney, why would you have been selected to receive a "message" that meant nothing to you at the time?
can anyone explain why no "psychic" phenomena or indeed any of the rest of the WWOTB has ever been demonstrated in a controlled test? Surely if you had the "gift" you'd use it to make yourself rich rather than conning gullible fools out of a shilling?
TTT I think it was energy from the girl who died horrifically a few miles from our home (she was in a car with her brother that jumped a stop sign and she was killed instantly by an HGV coming the other way, her brother survived) I think in those last seconds she probably was thinking about her baby, and I have a gift to pick up that energy, like a radio wave. When it first came to me I was thinking more about Australia (Sydney) than a girls name, I have never heard of a baby called sydney).

These messages are not friendly two-way conversations, they are often one or two words, or even a feeling' rather than narrative. I can't explain it, I just accept it. What I don't do is offer my services for money. I'm also an exceptionally good Tarot reader but that's for another thread lol!
// can anyone explain why no "psychic" phenomena or indeed any of the rest of the WWOTB has ever been demonstrated in a controlled test?//

Thats easy -because most of those who are fakes would go nowhere near a test, and those that are real can't turn their gift on and off like a tap.
so what is the form of this "energy" how is it stored? how does it not get tangled up with all the other energy? Is it actual energy in the physics sense or are you just using the word for lack of what it actually is?
APG, are there many serious accidents in your neighbourhood?
sorry naomi this question was about contacting dead people, so i assumed thats what your answer was about

It is, bednobs .. but, as long threads have a habit of doing, it's moved around a bit. All ideas welcome.
i probably should have read all, but i didnt fancy 200+ posts of
"yes i was tricked it isnt real end of" and "no it's really real end of" as is also the way of lots of posts :)
Corby - your sarcasm has back-fired once again. The event happened in 2006 in Alberta, Canada, near Spruce View where we lived. We were on gravel roads and surprisingly there were a lot of accidents, despite having not much traffic -I think people got complacent driving.
TTT //so what is the form of this "energy" how is it stored? how does it not get tangled up with all the other energy? //

No idea. How do Radio Waves not get tangle up with X-Rays?

I 'm sure there is plenty of energy in the Universe that Humans have yet to discover.
