Anti Vaxer
70 Answers
I have a good friend who is an anti vaxer, i've had heated debates with him on social media over many months, I found out yesterday that he has caught Covid and has had to isolate over Christmas and has been quite ill, he is in his 60s, is it right for me to think, 'serves you right' or should I show sympathy?

At one end there are the complete idiots who claim the virus is not real and that the whole thing is some sort of conspiracy of the worlds governments and/or tech billionaires trying to use it as an excuse to chip us all. At the other end there are those that are just weighing up their personal risk assessment of the virus v their imagined effects of the vaccine. I don't think a "serves you right" approach is appropriate for those tending to the latter.

S-B //As has already been highlighted elsewhere on here the SA variant bears no correlation whatsoever with the UK
Entirely different circumstances and conditions//
Are you suggesting that because it has been "highlighted elsewhere on here" [AB] it must be true?
The omicron variant is the same wherever it is.

From another link :
Reporters also stated that even though vaccinated and unvaccinated people developed the disease in roughly equal numbers, most hospitalised patients were unvaccinated. And although the current South African COVID-19 wave may be coming to an end, South Africa’s omicron wave experiences may follow very similar patterns in other countries.
In contrast to this relatively encouraging news, some recent tweets and localised reports suggest that some hospitals in South Africa have experienced – or are experiencing – increasing numbers of hospitalised patients, with increasing numbers of patients requiring treatment in intensive care units and needing mechanical ventilation – a key indicator of severe COVID-19
Best proceed with caution for now until the scientists are sure

Are you nuts? or can't you read?
So why did you post data about SA that presently has been shown to bear no direct resemblance to what is happening in uk and most definitely did not when it was first mooted prior to Professor Whitty pointing out that it did not correlate with uk data and experience ?

Because you said;
"the SA variant bears no correlation whatsoever with the UK"
for the umpteenth & last time:
The SA variant is the omicron variant & it is exactly the same wherever it is found.

// To take an aggressive or antivax attitude will push him further into his line of antivax thoughts...........it will defeat the object.//
I have a few relations moiling and toiling in the health industry. And they know they have to treat them as ill people. Yes it is difficult not to say - "we both know this could have been avoided you know"
( that should be a-moiling and a-toiling, thx to Glenda Sligg)
and also
such caring people they are
there are a lot of ill people around already without you contributing your three pennyworth

chrissakes this is answerbank ( finking prole section) not MIT pointy-heads or Oxbridge rich know-alls

Because you said; the effect of "the SA variant bears no correlation whatsoever with the UK" because of the unknown effects of lack of vaccination ( bad) , young age range ( good ) and HIV ( unknown likely to be bad) - in short a different target population

// At the other end there are those that are just weighing up their personal risk assessment of the virus v their imagined effects of the vaccine. // - section B
when they are ill - every cray-zee anti vaxxer crowds into section B ( see above) - I mean whoever, who is at deaths door will admit - "I was not vaccinated because I did not wish to be turned into a Madonny robot"?
and that basically is every admission in London with Covid.
The Beeb ignorance is boundless ( OK fathomless) - they talk about the epicentre of the epidemic, there isnt one
and it is not London
and they talk about London showing the way - it wont.
the populations in the North are sifficiently different that conclusions are not necessarily transported - London conclusions may not apply in Stockport.
this is after 2 years
