I don't think any of us can answer for these women. They probably know about contraceptio n (after 20 years) but can't access it now. I haven't read all the answers t.b.h. so I'm probably just repeating. The conditions are horrible, but if one's husband insists on having sex - there's not a lot you can do. (Certainly not in their circumstance s.) I honestly don't...

Haven't the poor always produced as many children as possible?...whether in war torn countries or in more settled but economically impoverished communities...if only to ensure they had care and possibly shelter in old age? It was not for governments to supply such things, but family. And if half of the offspring produced didn't survive, there would still be a few that did. I'm sure this still exists and is why so many women and children still suffer.

I agree Naomi , I’ve watched and read many things on Judaism and is quite akin to that of the Muslim teachings especially in the Orthodox communities which we have a very large one here so seeing the girls in their wigs when they marry is quite commonplace here, and the man is regarded as the lawmaker , it’s not uncommon for these people to have 10-12 children , although even in Israel they don’t appear to be so impoverished as these poor Afghanis
