In my era and my kids experience, it would have been unthinkable that one would go on holiday 2 weeks before A or O levels. To be stranded abroad with your exams tomorrow would have been and in my opinion, totally irresponsible.

The last 2 weeks before an exam was the tidying up of months of study and to present oneself in the best physical and emotional state to take on examinations which could determine one's future.

To be in another country the day before your exams denogrates the importance of one's future.

Times have changed.

Did you mean, ‘Denigrate’?
English not prepared for too well, Sqad? ;-)

I did Zac and thank you -;)
I agree with you Sqad - the last 2 weeks before my exams were cramming in as much as possible and clarifying anything we were not sure off.
Had I suggested a holiday my parents would have given me a clip round the ear and told in no uncertain terms to get my head in the books

Redhelen ;-)
I wholeheartedly agree with you Sqad. There’ll be tears from some, I’m sure.
What do parents think the longer summer holidays are for?
A single day out to help relieve children is one thing, but to leave all their studies behind at home and travel abroad is totally beyond my comprehension. Modern-day thinking by some leaves me confused :(
What makes me laugh are these are the same parents that spent the last 2 years complaining that COVID was ruining their children's futures!
They can do English and Maths retakes in November.
Denogrates is obviously a typo :-) But education in our era didn't include typing skills (does it now?).

I agree with you regarding the irresponsibility of the parents not considering their children's important examinations.
when it comes to typos, i blame my fat fungers
They might have been studying on the beach or dance floor?

Lol
Morning Sqad nice to see you posting, I hope you’re well, my grandson is doing his A levels now and no way would my daughter have allowed a holiday, we will go away this July when they’re done for all the holiday companies stick it up you in the summer months
And off subject, when everybody is supposedly feeling the pinch money wise how come that they can fly off on foreign holidays. We get an extra days holiday for the Jubilee and off they go to foreign parts.

I agree it was totally stupid to take kids off abroad just before exams. But there seemd to be a lot of stupidity these days, regarding priorities.

Not everyone is feeling the pinch, most of us are coping
I agree Barry, you cut your cloth to fit
I recall my 'O' level oral German exam happening during the first of our annual Wakes week holiday period. We were warned at the start of the 5th Year that the exams occasionally encroach into the first Wakes week and to warn our parents not to mahe holiday plans before the timetable was published.
/Not everyone is feeling the pinch, most of us are coping/

Yes we are, but I bet a load of people who rushed off on holiday will be moaning about possible recession when they get back. Because holidays are some people's priority now days. Cut the cloth to fit id fine, but how many don't!!
Don't forget some of those holidaymakers booked months ago, others booked long ago but accepted reschedules when their holidays were COVID cancelled. No refunds for cancelling due to recession
I daresay Rishi will come up with a plan to help the compromised. :-P
It's expected nowadays as a right Douglas!! And it so annoys me
