If something is difficult do you normally just throw the towel in? Driving will give you independence and confidence that, once gained, you would never wish to be without. It would also increase job opportunities as a driving licence is essential for many jobs.
Even in an auto you need to select reverse gear
How many more lessons would you need for a manual test? You still need to drive to same standard onauto...its just you'll not grind gears or get wrong gear

If you want to drive, abbey, the only way you’re going to do that is to persevere with the lessons. A lot of people opt for automatic because it is easier. Less to think about. It means you can only ever drive automatics, but that works for those who do it. Perhaps have a word with your instructor and take your next lesson in an automatic and see how you get on with that.
Just bear in mind that if, and when, all cars are electric only they will not have gears, so an automatic-only licence will not be such a disadvantage as it is now.
bobb - it's the clutch control that really separates manuals from automatics; hill starts/creeping in traffic etc.
I think all of us get moments of despondency when we’re learning, abbey. It’s a stressful business. Keep your chin up. No one is good at anything until they learn.
When our daughter was learning to drive we had a manual and an automatic car. We started her on the auto as there is less to think about so she was able to learn "roadcraft". Once she felt competent she went manual. There's something to be said for taking an automatic test and then, if you think it's worthwhile, taking a manual test at some time in the future when you have gained confidence.
Don’t let anyone put you off, abbey. If you want to do it, do it. I remember coming home from one of my lessons crying my eyes out because it wasn’t the best. Everyone has to learn, none of us do it perfectly from the beginning, and don’t let anyone tell you differently - even the smarty pants!
