Asylum Seekers
37 Answers
To all you xenophobes who fret about the asylum seekers arriving on our shores, I highly recommend you watch this youtube video which will tell you almost all you need to know about the current situation.
Although all of it is informative; of most interest to me was Rushi Sunak saying that he is bringing in new laws that mean if you come to the UK illegally, you can’t stay – no matter how hard you try. Of course, people arriving at our shores seeking asylum are entitled to do so, so any such new laws Sunak proposes will not stop the boats.
The presenter also points out the number of asylum seekers arriving in the UK in 2002 was over 84,000 and in 2022 just over 74,000, asking if you knew what the government were doing in 2002 about the immigration problem?

Just another statistic for the xenophobes here:
The Daily Wail (along with the Express) would have readers believe that only a very tiny percentage of asylum seekers are genuine, with the vast majority simply being economic migrants. The reality is very different though, with THREE QUARTERS of asylum seekers either being granted asylum or given refugee status.

//To all you xenophobes who fret about the asylum seekers arriving on our shores,...//
Why do you so often begin your questions with an insult.
//Is your objection to the asylum seekers arriving in the UK, the colour of their skin or simply that they are foreigners,
What a ridiculous question. By their very nature all asylum seekers will be foreign and it's quite likely that, being foreign, they will have different skin colours.
//.. the fact that the incompetent handling of the matter by the Tory government is costing the tax-payer way more than it should, or some other objection?//
As I pointed out yesterday, at the current rate of small boat arrivals, the authorities will have to consider and decide 125 claims per working day. How do you expect that level to be maintained and (more importantly) why do you expect the taxpayer to fund the process when there are far more urgent matters requiring funds?
