In 2002 there were more asylum seekers arriving in the UK than in 2022 – and the government of the day managed to process them, such that they did not waste money on long term accommodation.

It comes down to the same problem, a lack of affordable housing. It has been going on for years and started way back with Margaret Thatchers brain dead policy to stop council housing.
