Think: Johnson, Sunak, Truss, May, Trump.

The UK population is generally right of centre. Argue this point as much as you like, but the last 60 or so years proves this.
Ah, but the hard of thinking will say, we had a Labour Govt under Blair and Brown for 13 years. It is an undeniable fact that they were more right than the current Tory Govt. Blair admired Thatcher, and he was right to do so as she's been the been PM by a country mile in my lifetime.
The above aside, I largely agree with your point - we've had dreadful leaders of late, but none of them are what I would describe as proper Tories.
Personally I'm disenfranchised; I've voted Tory ever since I was old enough to vote, because that was always the correct way to vote, but I won't be voting Tory at the next GE because the Tory party in its current guise are not Tories. It doesn't mean I'll vote Labour (I'm not insane - Flip-flop Starmer and a fish wife, no thanks), I just won't be voting.

actually Hymie, no other life form on this planet engages in democracy and selects its leaders. no other life form on this planet could therefore be said to be more discerning about the quality of leadership. unless, of course, Phil knows different?
Most reasonably advanced life forms have an ‘Alpha’ of the pack, who is their leader – often this is based on their superior physical strength; but some are more subtle, requiring the Alpha to form alliances to with others in the group to secure their position.
So many life-forms appear discerning about who leads them, more so than humans.
You’ve clearly not been watching many wildlife programs; often the Alpha pack leader is overthrown by the pack, not by an election but by another individual becoming dominant, gaining sufficient support (from others) to de-throne the incumbent.
A form of democracy at work in the animal kingdom – the dumbest amongst them, unlikely to garner the support of others to become leader.
