. . . . I doubt the nearby residents appreciate it.

I visited a nearby town today (Waterlooville) where one of the church clocks usually rings out the standard Westminster Chimes on the hour every hour.  Today it rang out one or more Christmas Carol tunes instead, a considerably longer chime.

Yes, rowan, that's just the sort of thing.  OK for passing by but painful if you live close.
