What would you do personally, if you were to find a sum of money in the street, or a bush etc etc? I would take it home and hide it then spend it.

I only ask because my mum found 40 today at a bus station and she handed it in to the information kiosk. I can imagine them all drinking that money right now. What would you do? And how much would you have to find before you think about reporting it?

I guess the right thing to do what people tell you is expected i to hand it in,in all honesty, think i'd be tempted to keep it,i really dont know,it'd worry me in case it belonged to some old dear who had just picked up her pension,i know there are a lot of dishonest people out there, and sometimes i dont blame them, sorry, but i am too soft, cant help it,my mind would be in overdrive, depends where i find it i guess!
if it was in a purse and it had the owners name and contact details in it or bank cards in it then I would definatley hand it in, but if it was just money say on the pavement and I didn't know who had dropped it then I would definatley keep it.

Me and my stepbrother found a wallet on the train filled with a credit card, debit card, and about 300 in 10's and 20's ... we handed it in to the train station, but no name was taken in case of a reward or even a thank-you ... we now wish that we'd kept it, as our honesty went un-noticed!
keep it ... keep it ... keep it ... keep it ... keep it ... keep it ...
tut,tut,tut!
lol
If it had a name and address I would return it,if it didn't I would keep it,No way would I hand it over to a Copper, I wouldn't trust most of them sorry to say, I had dealings years ago with the Police and Lost all faith in the Honesty of them, Ray
God ray,we are soooooooo alike!!
Must be Love !!!! xxx

I am off to watch a film now, take care Kip xx
I've no doubt,if it was in a wallet/purse then I would take it to the police station if it didn't contain any ID. A note blowing in he wind i'd pocket
I had a conversation with an ex Traffic warden the other week. He told me that when they (he and his colleagues) used to find lost property, they handed it in to the local Police Station. However, after a certain period of time it's finders keepers if not collected by rightful owner. Anyway, the traffic wardens used to go back to the station and collect (whether money, jewellery etc). I think this is totally WRONG! Why should someone working for local government/council be allowed to keep something they found during working time? A bit different if they found something whilst out of uniform in their own time maybe?? You wouldn't believe what they ended up with. Should all go to charity in those situations I think. That's the same as a Police Officer finding something whilst on patrol, taking back to his station and then keeping it if not claimed.
If i found some money on its own out of a purse with no i.d or anything then of course i would spend it as it has no way of returning back to the owner really and probably who i handed it in to would spend it! If it was in a purse with i.d then i would hand it in definetly. I got real drunk and got a taxi home and was so into eating my pizza must have dropped my purse on the walk from the taxi home - i couldnt find it anywhere on the sunday morning. So i phoned up the taxi company and the police on the off chance - turned out the police station had it - someone walking there dogs had found it and drove 20mins down to the police station and handed it in for me :D
thing is, who actually would contact the police if they dropped money or their wallet?
i never have.
i have contacted the last place i have been for a purse or phone, but not for cash.
A couple of years ago, I had my car stolen. It was found by the police, parked on a road and when I went to pick it up, found that the thieves had left an unusual designer leather jacket in the car. It fitted me perfectly and I wanted to keep it, but had visions of proudly wearing it out and then being accused of stealing it by the real owner! I handed it in to the police station and as it was not claimed in 6 weeks or so, was allowed to keep it, this time with a clean conscience!
Found 50 in a cash-bag once on my paper round when I was 14, floating in a puddle on a horrible saturday morning. Bought a new skateboard and lived it up for a fortnight. However I did find a wallet once with a bit of money, 2 cash-cards and the pin numbers but handed that in as it was less anonymous than the cash-bag
