If a few others were around, we could have a mass debate. :-) Plenty women get called for cradle snatching in my opinion and you kinda dilute my Q. by dismissing the bondage etc stuff being more normal than age stuff. Incest, I can understand the problem there; genetic. Is this the fear with ageism, that the children will have one old parent? [and one young one?] well what's wrong with that?
Hi 'bok! I think older men with younger women is more 'accepted' than the other way round perhaps because it is more the 'norm' for the man to be the older partner, although both seem to be frowned upon, even in these liberated times! I don't see a problem with any of it, myself. As long as both partners are happy adults, what difference does it make how old they each are? I think some of the problem might be the stories you hear of 50-year-old men going off with 16-year-old school girls, or the 30-year-old female school teacher toying with her 15-year-old male student. Now that I *would* think twice about. But as a general rule, age difference dating is not something that bothers me!
Answerbok - Couldn't agree more, dunno why it's something that was handed down from our previous generation. Like children outside of marriage or shock horror living together. What was the term - usually only applied to women - "Cradlesnatcher" It's the same as a bloke can sow his wild oats - and used to be encouraged to; but if a woman did it then she was a t*rt, sl*g or a wh*re [third re-type this time no profanities, sorry ed let me edit next time instead of just dumping the Q]. I also think as you get older you need some spice in your love life and as you say as long as both agree & it doesn't hurt [too much] it's fine, if one says enough then it is
Am in a long term age gap relationship (significant gap) and have experienced many reactions over the years, from the distinctly negative to the giving of permission (well if it makes you happy, what difference does age make etc). Throughout I have been indifferent, embarrassed, proud, or angry depending on circumstances and my own feelings. Yes, its taboo. It's as if one of us (probably me as the younger) is seen as somehow inadequate, leaning on an older man to offer emotional and financial protection. Well, it started with lust and I still fancy him ... there's the real answer!! :)
I'm not sure it's the big deal it was years ago, as the age for marriage, or absence thereof even, gets older. That said - a couple of friends of mine do 'suffer' occasionally - he is fifteen years older than her at 49, and looks older, being bald, she is a child-like 34, and on more than one occasion has been mistaken for his daughter!I think the answer - if affected personally, is to ignore it, and if not affected directly, find smonething more important to worry about. A couple of friends of my in-laws saw their oldest daughter marry a man older than her dad - and he boycotted the wedding in protest Now some fifteen years on, with his daughter and son-in-law still blissfully happy, he seriously regrets taking the moral high ground. So, take care before acting first, and thinking of others' happiness second - which come to think of it, is a pretty good motto for life in general.
I've seen a 55 year old dating a 17 year old, and I just think it's kind of wrong! I mean, he's old enough to be her dad, and there's this obvious father-daughter thing going on. She was probably looking for the father she never had, mistaking her neglected feelings for sexual ones, and he was probably thrilled to seduce such a young, limber, and charmingly innocent teenage girl. You really should question if he's sick to want to date and sleep with someone so far behind him in years and maturity, and you should question why she wants to date and sleep with someone that far out of her age range. It's not always right!
