hi pitstopbunny, you can do care work...loads of opportunities in the UK!!! Go to your local job centre, church or community centre...I'm sure they will be able to assist and lead you in the right direction! All the best....very rewarding to help old people!
Hi pitstop,Why not find out if there's a centre or club your local aged go to, these places are always looking out for helpers, I go one a week to one locally. all I do is help with their dinners, (cutting the food into portions for the ones that can't manage), talking to them, making them laugh. its very rewarding,

I can only do it once a week, because i'm in full time work, If you do this, i'm sure you'll love it.

Hi Lonnie, sounds a good plan, I've been off work myself for 2 years, so this would be a good way of getting into it - I'll see what is around!!
Our local Volunteer Bureau tells me that one of their main requests is for befrienders - just to go to someone's house a couple of times a month, have a cup of tea and a chat. I know several people who would love to have more contact with the outside world.
Another one is mentally bright but physically frail, living in an old folk's home where most of the residents are suffering from some form of dementia. The chance of a conversation is all she requires. You get the idea, you don't need any more skills than a liking for tea and a willing ear to be very welcome, in very many places.
