I have read recently (in a quiz question) that
"
If a British infantry soldier has three stripes on his uniform on his wedding day what rank does he normally hold? Corporal (traditionally a solider is made up one rank for his wedding day)"

Is this tradition still upheld?
Did it ever exist or is this simply an apocryphal story?

No i am an Inf soldier if he has 3 stripes he is a Sgt
I would agree with heathfield and suspect it is hogwash.
I did not get made up on my wedding day, I just had a wash and shave.
3 stripes = Sgt
