baby changing rooms, do i carry on complaint?

We recently called in at my local Tesco, my boyfriend went off to the baby changing facilities which has recently been upgraded. When i finished the little shopping i had to do i found my boyriend making a complaint to customer service desk.
The reason. Tesco had seen fit to install the handdryer over the end of the changing table. Our son was blasted in the face with warm air. which ever way he was laying the drier blew warm air on him which was rather distressing. With each move of his arm my boyfriend turned the dryer on.

When we complained, the customer service woman went to the changing room and found a mother of a very young child trying to keep her baby away from the dryer and the warm air. the mother was not pleased with the layout of the room either.

We put in a complaint there and then and it was put on the computer system by the customer service adviser.
have just received a letter from tesco which thanks us for our comments (erm it was a complaint) and that it will be passed to HO and discussed at their next review.

Do you think i should take this further? I feel that a very young baby may be distressed considerably by this or even burnt if parents accidently turn it on when baby is close. As it was, my son is at an age where we can explain things to him and he calmed down fairly soon.

I would get intouch with your local health and safety department. It sounds totally unsafe.

Ive spoken to the main customer service department in the company just now and they called the store.
The letter, although signed Services Manager and looking like it was from HO, was actually from a manager in store.
When HO asked her for her comments today she said she will now ask her maintenance guys to look into it.
Im appalled it has taken 10 days and a call from HO to make her react. They have done nothing, who knows how long it may have taken or what couldve happened before they changed the layout.
Don't get too excited they still might not change anything without pressure from Health and Safety.

well they will be getting a visit from health and safety as the woman i spoke to there knew exactly why i had cause for concern and will investigate asap.
Perhaps this will get it changed.
Definitely continue to pester. Tesco have got far too big for their oversize boots and in my experience are becoming very cavalier indeed about "customer service". Good luck to you!
Write to your local paper Tesco will get it done then.

i agree with figi, they dont seem to give much of a toss about individuals satisfaction nowadays
My main point of concern is, what is your boyfriend doing changing a nappy? surely that's woman's work!

Just found this....
Myth: Hot air hand dryers are the most sanitary way to dry your hands.
Fact: Hot air hand dryers can actually increase the amount of bacteria on your hands after handwashing . Bacteria can grow inside of hand dryers because they provide a warm moist environment. When the dryer is turned on, the air that comes out can be filled with bacteria. Paper towels are a better way to dry your hands because they can physically remove bacteria while not adding additional bacteria to the hands.
Imagine all the bacteria blasting into babies faces!
Following Metz posting I worked for 10yrs in a cake factory and they did not used electric hand driers for all the reasons metz gives, but to get back to the original posting where children, especially babies are concerned these firms should NEVER take risks and always ensure that facilities they provide are safe.

Just a quick update, thanks to all that posted.
Health and Safety called me today, theyd been too busy to get there before today (at least they acted as soon as they could)
Anyway when they got there nothing had been done by the store manager, she hadnt even got her maintenance guys to look (as she'd promised to do Monday). H&S made them take the fuse out immediately and put an out or order sign on it until Head Office can get it moved or find an alternative.
Im pleased that it will now be sorted and that H&S have promised to check that it is done and not just switched back on.
Im still appalled at Tesco's lack of action and the fact that another 3 days have passed with them doing nothing until forced.
i complained about tesco's restaurant being filthy on a busy sat , again like you thank you for your comments , no apologies , or no refund for the food purchased
i would not have minded but was with elderly grandparents and it was filthy
tesco have since gone down in my estimation , they earn billions and cant even do basic good customer service / refund people for their distress , i now shop in asda , good luck i hope u get a good result x
