It's often suggested that you should blow a whistle down the phone to annoy unwanted callers. Personally, I think that this is being a bit too nasty to the poor over-worked, under-paid person, working in a sweat-shop call centre, on the other end of the line.
Another frequently recommended tactic is to tell the caller that you're naked. This, apparently, will make them forget their script, and put the phone down.
I've not tried it, but I've often thought that the following response might work:
"Thank you so much for calling. I knew you would because the Lord told me so in a dream. Have you welcomed the Lord into your heart yet? I know He wants you to do so; it was in the message which He revealed to me. Please let me tell you more about Our Lord".

Definitely sign up to the Telephone Preference Service. We did about 2 years ago and the calls have now virtually stopped. The odd one (about once every 2-3 months) gets through but I just ask them where they got our number from as we are signed up to the Telephone Preference Service. I usually get an apology and a promise that they will take our number out of their system.
we used to engage the caller in conversation about our health. when they ask 'and how are you today?' we would tell them, in minute detail, until they hung up. it became something of a competition in the family as to how long we could keep them on the line.
this did two things - the caller paid for a longer call, and we always came off the phone smiling, instead of annoyed.
now we're registered with tps and it's just as spudqueen says. not as much fun though!

You could try a routine like this one!
