How does a mason know that he is meeting a fellow mason from another lodge (been told its a funny handshake,and the pulling up of the right trouser leg )

They do a handshake where they rub a particular knuckle and have code phrases.
One such is 'Will no one help the widows's son?' (the widow's son is the supposed founder of Freemasonry),
and this is a call for help from one freemason to another.

The handshake would vary according to the level of Masonry one has achieved, i.e., Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft or Master Mason. There are 33 degrees in Masonry, but everything above Master Mason is more or less an honorary degree.
In the old days, one could recognize a Mason by the way he would stand on the street if he was seeking assistance or recognition from another Mason. Additionally, there are phrases each would recognize from the other if spoken.
