when did they invent this new way of making money for the greeting card industry? Are you already engaged? If so most people will be expecting you to marry, the wedding invites go out 6-8 weeks before. Don't be drawn into wasting paper postage and time , it's all a fad to get you to spend more money, save your cash.
I woudnt be so sure on that dot,
My sister is getting married on 7/7/07, and at a family party of her fiances, (who has a huuuuuuuuge family)
my sisters fiances cousin announced that she was getting married on the 7/7/07.
My sister and her missus had already booked the venues & so had her cousin, so now unforunately, alot of my future sister in laws family wont be at their wedding!
I think it's more usual to send out the invitations about 3 months in advance these days Dot. arsenalchick - I'd either send out the invitations NOW or just let people know when you see them/speak to them/write to them the date. Hell, don't start another trend by sending out cards twice!
that confused mt wiggal, alot. Surely if the families you talk about were that close to start with they would have known what was going on with the dates anyway.
Its the done thing now Dot i believe ....Save the date cards (which people make themselves for some reason ) ??
get sent out many months before so they are pre warned about the impending wedding and to keep the date free, rather than be told a couple of months before the wedding as people go away more regularly nowadays, so i would say about six months before the wedding to send the save the day cards arsenalchick.. ps good luck with all your planning - there are wedding sites you can join for guidance, google for them
seriously patricia, if you have to let people know your plans this way, they are obviously not close to you and so why would you want them at your wedding? Anyone who you really want there would know what is going on in your life anyway.
Dot, its not the family isnt that close, it is just the family is so big!
She doesnt see all her cousins that often, and they both knew eachother was getting married, they had both started arranging it all and turned out at the family party, they had arranged it for the same day.
Exactly dot, verbal 1st ,so family dont book holidays then paper /card invitation (whether hand made or bought ) ,about three months before the wedding as it has always been...
Well I must admit that I have never heard of these until now, and seeing the price of them on dot.hawkes link dont think that I will bother, will just make up something on computer.
We are getting married to next year arsenalchick and guess what, I support arsenal.
Daft waste of money (not the cards, getting married! LOL).

However, I would have thought it would make sense to send them as soon as you know the date! And please make sure its not on cup final day, grand national day or Crufts if you are inviting me!
