Will our baby be ginger!
27 Answers
Hi, Sorry if this sort of thing has been posted, but i cant find mych info on the internet to help! I have blue/grey eyes and light brown hair (it was blonde until my early teens) and my husband has blue/green eyes and ginger hair. I know ginger is a recessive gene but I wonder if anyone knows what this sort of combination would create! Thanks for any help!

Well my parents both have dark brown hair and brown eyes and I was born with bright ginger hair and have green eyes!!My hair's now gone dark brown though...my brother was born with white blonde hair so I think the genes thing doesn't always make much difference.
On your info though my guess would be that your baby will be born with either blonde or strawberry blonde/ginger hair.Pah forget months etc they make no difference whatsoever to genes and DNA.

I have black hair and my babies dad had fair hair and my son was ginger. If you both carry a ginger gene then your baby will have a one in four chance of being ginger. Then again like the poster says if your partner has ginger hair then that goes to 50/50. The ginger gene is strong because its primitively the most attractive. Just the English getting at the scots many years ago. I posted this already on another ginger thread today but this is my little red head. He has odd colouring for a redhead though as he tans really really well and has NO freckles.

Goodie..your little Goodie is GORGEOUS! he reminds me of Rick Astley (no offence intended..he is cute too, IMO). Does he have brown eyes? my aunt is a redhead with brown eyes, and I think it is really attractive.
Right, here is my experience of ginger genes.
My grandad and all his family were ginger. My gran was very dark haired. They produced 6 children ~ only one (my mother) was dark haired. The others were all brown/auburn coloured.
His son (my uncle) married a brown haired woman. Bearing in mind that he too had brown hair ~ they produced two boys with shocking ginger hair. No other ginger haired babies have been born to the others. In fact one of my uncles (brown haired) married a redhead and their daughter is platinum blonde.
I married a ginger haired man. He was the first ginger in two generations. Both his parents had dark hair. We have produced two children ~ both blonde.
I would say the ginger gene is pretty much a rogue..it seems more likely to skip generations and turn up unannounced ;o)
