There cannot be one single excuse for their behaviour and I dont believe society has to accept them, ship them all off into the middle of the ocean or somewhere they can do no harm to anyone ever again. Rehab doesnt work, they have a faulty wiring system that cant be fixed.
Something a bit odd about this.
This sort of information is not normally bandied about by councils - did you get some sort of letter?
I ask because earlier this year there was a trial there to make this sort of information available to certain people but it certainly wasn't meant to be sent to people in some sort of maildrop.
You definately were told this directly from the council, not from someone else who says that the council told them?

Unfortunately knowing that there is an ex-offender does not help - you don't know after all who else there is who is not there - rapists, psychotics, people with convictions for GBH, shoplifting?
Where do we stop?
And If you start to get more going AWOL as a result you go from a situation where the authorities know where 99% of them are and you don't to a situation where neither you or the Police know where 50% of them are.
I don't think that would be a step forward.
The most promissing approach is probably for the requirement for surgical castration as a condition for parole. It's not 100% effective in stopping reoffending but pretty near and it's being actively persued in Government now.
Seems a much better idea to me

Jake the peg - surgical castration is of no use whatsover in cases of paedophiles or other sex offenders.
"However, this treatment is not as effective as commonly believed, for there have been numerous cases of castrated men continuing to molest children."

Permanent removal from society is the only answer for paedophiles who offend.
If you live in a town or city, you are not far from at least one paedophile. There are no more paedophiles nowadays than there were 50 years ago, we are just more aware of them because of the media frenzy.
So oldgrape, I would do no more than I do now.

No she won't be telling the others she was just very concerned about my sons and has left me to deal with it now
Surely it is wrong to place some one like this so near to a school, park and young families
Am i the only 1 who thinks this is wrong!
Yer i can watch my kids but i don't want him watching them or thinking about them, even if he doesn't try to touch them just knowing that he could be having perverted thoughts about my kids is terrifiing

Hmmm..but if you get a petition started this will obviously mean telling other people about it.
The reason people are not being told is because the general public really cannot be trusted with this information. Your sister should change her job if she cannot keep confidential information.
Rightly or wrongly as the law stands paedophiles have to live somewhere. I may have one living next door to me for all I know..

Ethel,
I don't know if your opinion is just based on this site or on a deeper investigation.
I used to believe this but then went off to investigate it after one of Loosehead's little "cut them off" rants intent on proving him wrong but what I found changed my mind.
Take this paper:
http://www.jaapl.org/cgi/content/full/33/1/16 (Journal of the American Acadamy of Psychiatry and Law)
The studies of bilateral orchiectomy are compelling in the very low rates of sexual recidivism demonstrated among released sex offenders.
From memory I think the highest case of recidivism was about 15% -(chemical) - but I don't have the references to hand right now.
You can twist that and say that there are "numerous cases of molestation" but we're talking about a better than 85% result.
That is very very far from useless in my humble opinion!
Oldgrape I'd keep my eyes open and my mouth firmly shut if I were you - anonymous letters and the like have a habit of finding their way home when investigations are started and your sister in law could get in more trouble than just losing her job
