The Great North/South Divide

Hi All,
Do you think there are differences between the North and South then? If you do think there are differences, what do you like about those differences? Does anyone take the stereotypes that we give each other seriously? Do you think it's all just a bit of joke that we poke fun at each other or do you think there's a serious element to it all?
(And if anyone can tell me what a stuttie (sp?!) is I'd really appreciate it!)

I'm in the midlands, family originally from Derby, that's near Manchester CD! LOL
I don't feel like part of either, just in the middle of both , neither here nor there, however, southerners call us northerners and northerners call us southerners!
In my opinion, i do find northerners the friendliest but that is a very general opinion.

I took that as you implying that Shropshire is northern. Sorry if I got the wrong impression. I've been all over - born in the Midlands, grew up in the Channel Islands and worked my way north when a student: Plymouth then Manchester, ending up with Hubby in North Cumbria. I generally find Northerners warmer, but then there are 'good' and 'bad' people wherever you go.........

Just moved from Watford are (a north Londoner by birth) to Derby. My hubby thinks we are 'up north', my son (who thinks London is everything) chalked on our bare walls 'e by gum' and my younger son dismissed us as mad till he came up and nodded that it wasn't as bad as he thought.
People are nicer, happier and more polite here. My husband returns from the paper shop many mornings wondering why a solitary motorist would stop at the zebra for him to cross. He thinks thats crazy and you'd never see a Londoner do that.
He long ago noticed the difference in people up here. Being called 'duck' is a charming novelty still for us. My friend has told him not to be alarmed if he is called this by another man but he things thats taking things a bit far!!
