And in a lot of cases also, I think the dads are quite happy with that, as they can pursue their careers without having the extra job of ferrying the kids to school and then having to find a dead end job that fits round them all.

He's the same age as my wee boy. I'm in the opposite situation as yourself. My boyfriend and i at the time were trying for a baby when i fell pregnant he turned arond and told me he had changed his mind, and gave me an ultimatum it was him or the baby i aborted the boyfriend and kept the baby. His father has never had anything to do with him to this day. It's heartbreaking when this innocent little lad ask me wheres my dad. But if his father was to get in touch now asking to see him i would allow it. I couldn't print on here what i actually think of the guy but as a mother i realise that he has a right to know his father.
Perhaps your son's father'll mellow with age, and be delighted to see his son one day. That doesn't help matters NOW, but all you can do is tell your son that he's loved, but his dad isn't around at the moment because things didn't work out. It's not far from the truth, yet doesn't poison the child's mind against this man.
