I had the misfortune of being in Gravesend yesterday - my god, what an absolute hole - but what did make me laugh was a sterotypical chav.

This creature. probably about 19/20, was heavily pregnant with two kids already in tow, including the almost compulsory 'braaaaaahn' one, standing there fag in one hand, can of Stella in the other.

It was 9.30am.

These poor bloody kids just don't stand a chance do they?

I agree flip-slop. Gravesend is the most heinous place in Kent; even worse than Chavham aka Chatham

Please excuse my typo
For once I agree whole heartedly with you.
The intrepid correspondents at Chavtowns seem to echo your experience of Gravesend.
kent.... dont you know its called the garden of england?

i live in kent... maidstone grim to value 6/10

chatham 10/10
gravesend 9/10
sheerness 11/10

there are compost heaps in many gardens and kent have a fair few!

Don't stand a chance of what?

Possibly not of reaching the level you have attained, but your success and their success will be fairly subjective, will it not. Besides they contribute to the large number of types you can despise and feel superior to.

If you take a biological determinism? approach or the selfish gene, her productivity in having two already and a third child on the way demonstrates success.

Once again Ruby, I don't have the faintest idea what you are talking about.
until we set a high standard and introduce licenses to breed we are stuck with pond life of the sort you describe

havent we all seen these types in the supermarket?

the couple grim and their grimmer offspring?

The ironic thing is that she probably thinks herself superior to people from oop north
Unfortunately it isn't just limited to Gravesend, your story could be the same anywhere in the country. It really does make you feel sick though when you see this sort of thing. All i can think when i see something like that is "Yep, those'll be the kids that are doing the stabbing / robbing etc in ten years time"
I think Flpflop, that ruby means that she has produced 3 chavvies, doing her bit to ensure the population of next generation dossers is not diminished! Still good to see the state dishes out enough dosh for ciggies and lager, bet the kids go without though, poor little sods.
So sorry I was obviously being obtuse.

These poor bloody kids just don't stand a chance do they?
This was your question, yes.

I was wondering, stand a chance of what? I made the assumption that the wouldn't stand a chance of sucess. I could be wrong it was a guess, (I thought their existence proved that it wasn't of a life). I then went on to raise the issue that what is sucess is subjective.

However, I am sure I have completely missed the point, your post being far to subtle for me. Prehaps you could explain what you think these poor bloody children don't stand a chance about.
Gravesend is no flower in that Garden helpmeto that comes form some one who lives in Chatham lol

They don't stand a chance of a decent life because their f e c k less pregnant mother was standing around at 9.30am smoking and drinking, bought, no doubt, with taxpayers money.

I have absolutely no doubt the father(s) are nowhere to be seen either.

Clear enough?
Abundantly clear, thank you.

No one would ever promote that a pregnant mother should consume alcohol and smoke cigarettes, but you will find from history that despite these obstacles humans have not only survived but thrived. So 'your' chavs may not be doomed after all.

And the Leap of Logic award goes to...........tonyted.
I think it's probably quite a rare thing that flip_flop and I use the same hymn sheet and I'm pretty sure he'd/she'd agree with that.

However in this case I'm going to back the little flopper all the way. The female role model in the life of these children and the person they look up to and respect is currently do her best to set the worst kind of example.

Yes, her children don't have to follow in her footsteps and may indeed go on to be successful in this world (whatever your definition of that is) but how much harder and how much more are they going to have to struggle for it?

The idea of a 19/20 year old not have the sense to realise that smoking and drinking at 9am while pregnant may be considered not one of her better ideas does not inspire me with much confidence. If that's judgemental of me then fine, I can live with that. But considering kids absorb information and have a lot of their personalities shaped between the ages on 1 and 5 I will echo flip_flops sentiments, what chance do these children have?
