Familiarism?
Comfort?
Normality?
Sincerity?

or is it...

Extrovert?
Unique?
Groundbreaking?
WOW?

What makes something ICONIC? Is it when it is something familiar, something everyone can identify with? Or is it something that 'thinks outside the box', breaks all the traditions, and is radical when considered alongside everything else?

When applying this to a building (in whichever country, city, or village), what are the factors that make is ICONIC? What examples are there out there?

Why can't a 'thing' be iconic?

Using the building example, wouldn't it be a significant building, like a cultural or community hub? For example.... some people may consider the new Wembly Stadium to be an icon of the city - so its ICONIC
Dictionary definition of Icon is: a sacred painting or mosaic; a greatly admired person

I think tonyted is correct - a building can not be iconic using the above definition
