Would a matriarchal society be as discriminatory
32 Answers
I hold to the opinion that our values and beliefs are socially constructed. Those who wield the power, which in the main are white western men from a certain economic group, have shaped our society. Sexism and racism are very effective capitalist tools in which to control large sections of the population.
If there had ever been a matriarchy, would it have been a more caring sharing nurturing type of society, or would it have brought out the bitchiness that is inherent in women.
Well China Doll?

you have really cheered me up, I have hope for the future and can let go of the gloomy past.
"possible that we're still going through a transitional phase where we're not entirely sure of our role in society"
profound, seriously!
In my opinion, you have the better answer, 4GS money should go to you

Sleeping your way to the top is an extremely unfair way of making progress. I have tried but I was rejected, so double discrimination. Given my hairy armpits and homemade sandals, we feminists don't really have an equitable chance do we. Actually I have been half in love with all my bosses, men and women and despite my throwing myself at them they have shown remarkable restraint and not promoted me.

This is probably one of those posts that some (or many) of you will wish you had skipped over (unless its nap time).
When a man is followed he is designated a leader. When a man follows a woman he is potentially a stalker.
No one in their right mind (male or female) would seek to be leader of a random population of people. Leaders rise up the ladder of leadership by those who (perhaps possessing a smidgen more of wisdom) push them up each succeeding rung perceiving an imagined advantage to following (why woman leaders often where pants) rather than leading.
The saving grace of civilization from this conundrum is the desire and ability of those who, owning up to and meeting the obligations imposed by the responsibility for maintaining ones own life and achieving ones own happiness by virtue of the creativity of their own mind and products of their own efforts, see to it that they and their kind are left alone to participate in and benefit from the free trade of the bounty derived from their mutual understanding and respect for the demands placed by reality on human existence.
While such a view might gain me the title of anarchist (or antichrist) I do recognise a beneficial role for a rational form of government, that being to ensure the liberty of those who meet the demands of reality on life protection from the tyranny of those who seek to lead those who have no desire to follow. Fortunately such leaders who seek to achieve gains by the initiation and threat of force and pursue power for powers sake have little regard for the ghost of the power of a mind guided by reason they have abandoned to the grave yard of irrelevance. This spirit incarnate in the minds of rational life respecting freedom loving people will eventually (and never too soon) come back to haunt them.

You don't get my answer and I don't get the question. Therefore I must rule that the 20 quid be cut down the middle, you each get half
Well in keeping with that particular biblical story I feel it's my duty to proclaim that your suggestion would be a dreadful mistake and let Ruby have it.
And you know mibs, you might want to branch in to SAB once in a while too... it took me long enough to type out your bl00dy name when I was inviting you as a friend so I would consider it the least you can do frankly.

China, Spelling out my "bl00dy name" is quite unnecessary
Position your cursor over my "bl00dy name" and click twice to highlight
With your cursor still in position, right click and click on Copy
Reposition your cursor where you want my "bl00dy name" to appear then right click and Paste
I'd be honoured and thrilled to be taken for a ride in your mouse.
As you requested I had a look see . . . they're all talkin' 'bout bl00dy sports in there in case you hadn't noticed. I'm afraid I'll have to take a rain check on that, at least until mouse riding becomes a recognised sport. I hope we can still be friends in the mean time.
