kids in pubs

can anyone tell me the law regarding kids in pubs.like a lot of other people,i go to the pub to relax and wind down.
but more and more people are taking kids to the pub and letting them run riot and spoil other peoples peace and quiet.surely this is against the law.

If the pub has a childrens' certificate then children are allowed up to 9pm as long as they are with adults.

That is the law.

There is nothing to say that children must be quiet and well behaved - that is down to the management of the pub.

I suggest you complain to the manager and tell them you will take your custom elsewhere if the children are not better controlled.

If the pub makes most of its money from people with children, however, you won't get very far.

it isnt against the law for children to be in the pub after 9pm, its up to the licensee, although they do stop them going into certain parts of the pub

Both of these answers are wrong.

The Licensing Act 2003 changed the law to allow ACCOMPANIED children into pubs if the landlord wishes to have them. They cannot be in there after midnight, when adult entertainment is being provided or at times when unaccompanied by an adult. You can speak to the landlord about his policy and let him know what you think or, regrettably, find another pub.

well i for one didnt mean the child going in on its own, which is how i read your answer. and i was only talking to a landlord today when this question came up and that was his answer

Regrettably, in 19 years of licensing experience in local councils, I have never met a landlord, taxi driver or any other licensee who has read their licence and is aware of what they can and can't do legally!! No wonder so many get it wrong.

Gina, yes, except for the 9pm bit. That appears nowhere in the law

I like the fact that i can take my children to the pub on some occassions especially now the smoking ban has come into force. I don't however take them out in the evenings to the pub and deliberately choose 'adult' pubs when i want to relax.
Choose another pub - surely people with children have the right to go out?
