Life on other planets

What would happen to the religious world as we know it if it was proved beyond doubt that life existed on other planets and for that matter what would be the effect in the non religious world?

Well, Jake, we'll probably never know the answer in our lifetime, but that aside, earth-like planets are out there and are possibly within reach. One was discovered earlier this year, which is 20 light years away, and I believe this new one is about 40 light years away, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that some day we will be able to visit them - or they us (if there's anyone there).
