One argument to rule them all.
this is it. this is the only thread you ever need to read on immigration. There is no argument to this - no rebuttle no even slightly confusing stance on this. I know your allowed to post back but there's no point because this is infallible!!!!
We need immigrants to sustain our economy thats it end of argument!
Our ageing population (which has forced our retirement age to increase to 67) is going to be the biggest burden on our economy in the next 50 years. Unless there is a massive baby boom (Of which there is no evidence to support there will be) we will need immigrants to keep our economy afloat.

We need to manage a stable age range throughout our population without "baby booms" or famines.
We also need to encourage the sort of immigration with people coming and settling with their families. Economic migrants comming over for a few years and sending all their money home does us no good at all.

i'm glad you all agree, and while i was being slightly silly saying there are no issues mainly they are better for this country.
when highlighting the case of the footballer remember thats one case that the papers WANT you to hear about.. There could be loads of people that come over this coutnry on the promise of work and then get here to find they arent required anymore. OR they could have been here 6 months and then get laid off by work and then suddenly the papers are all "migrant steals our benefits!!!!" there is always a lot more to these stories than the papers want you to believe, in my little opinion!

Nothing wrong with that (apart from IQ tests) although we have to remember that there is a European element.
With free movement of people in Europe there can and should be no permanent bars to Europeans within Europe but we should aim to balance our population within that and actively seek to attract the best from outside the EU to come and make up the balance to a modest growth.
This is pretty much the state of affairs now

well i am a leftie and i completely disagree with that statement!
if you look at this country there is now a big influx of young to the cities which has had a negative effect on our countryside. W
hat we need is farm workers and i dont see the need for them to be in mensa to do those kind of jobs!
Couple with the fact that half of this country would be disgraced by an IQ test i dont see that as relevant at all.
Criminal records are tricky as once the time has been served then they should be seen as free and have equal rights as in this country so whilst it is relevant its not black and white!

I know lots of assylum seekers that have been waiting up to 6 years in some cases for a decision.
They are expected to survive on bridging allowance, which is less than job seekers allowance and they're not allowed to study beyond HND level. The home office needs to hire more people to get rid of the back log of assylum requests so that they can either be put in work or deported but for some reason they aren't capable of doing that and the assylum seekers remain in poverty while costing the country money. I'd happily let them all stay if it were up to me, subject to finding work.

what about health screening for all immigrants? most eastern european countries have no healthcare system. since the opening of the boarders we have seen the reappearance of many serious desiases in the uk. theres no doubt that we need an immigrant workforce but we do not need any extra load on our already overstreched national haelth service.
