i remember a midwife telling me about a woman who was giving birth whose surname was eggs so she called her baby son, hammond! hope he had a sense of humour, does anyone else know anyone with a funny name
It could have been worse. Their surname might have been 'Organ'.
Not the same thing, but my mother in law told me the story of a family she knew while she was teaching one of their sons. The woman was having another baby, and when it was born they announced he was to be called Gooey.
Taken aback, my mother in law asked the woman how the name was spelled.
I remember a girl who was wading through the names book when pregnant and she came up with a lovely name (obv just looked nice to her) -she announced 'Chilow' ????? yip Chloe
I knew a woman called Peronel Stiff. I know a Richard Head, whose nickname was ********. Don't know why but it still makes me laugh ten years on.
My ex works in a bank and he once told me a woman called Rhoda Dick applied for a loan. He got a rollicking for laughing at her, so it must have been true. Poor woman.
Similar to Drisgirl's; the first time I saw the name Penelope, I thought it rhymed with envelope. As for unusual names, there is a doctor in our local hospital whose last name is Doctor. So what you hear when he's being paged over the PA system is "Doctor Doctor"!
