Are you a rascist if you call someone asian or of asian descent asian ?If someone was born in india would you be a rascist for calling them asian? just i read this http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/asian?vie w=uk
and i thought it meant indians were asians?Am i wrong?
I dont think you would be racist, but you would be wrong.
Someone born in India is an Indian, simple as that =]
India is a subcontinent of Asia, I suppose it would be like calling someone from Scotland British. It's still technically true, but not as accurate as calling them Scottish.

if you couldnt be sure of their exact birthplace.
say they were british but you dint know if they were scottish or english?
or if you didnt know indian or pakistani?as they were once from the same country now divided i think thats why we say asian.rather than say indian or pakistani or bangladeshi.asian wouldnt insult them.
but calling an indian a pakistani or vice versa would indeed.indians and pakistanis do not like each other.that would be a major insult.
Ah yes I see what you mean.
Yes in that case being called Asian shouldn't be considered racist I dont think, and like you said, much better calling the person Asian than getting their region wrong!
