We spent a depressing afternoon at Albert Dock last Saturday. The roadworks for the proposed tramlines make it very difficult to spot the entrance to the most convenient parking. We parked in half-finished multistorey carpark next to the half-built arena, adjacent to Albert Dock - it was grim and lacked signing but even at the half-built stage smelled of strong disinfectant masking urine....
The dock itself is a mixed affair: certainly, attractions like the Beatles exhib., the Maritime Museum and the Tate are worth a visit but the rest is a baffling mixture of designer restaurants, oddball shops or just empty. If you like industrial architecture you'd like to see the docks basins and the fireproof construction of the warehouses BUT we concluded that we were glad we hadn't come a very long way.
If the weather was roasting hot the quayside would be nice. But it usually rains.
If you are coming a long distance, combine it with something like a visit to Chester and stay over at the Chester end.
