if you're being politically active, at least be informed. Otherwise, you just destroy your argument.

This clip is of a demo outside an abortion clinic; the interviewer asks each person if abortion should be legal or illegal, to which they all reply illegal. He then asks what the penalty should be, and they were, to a person, stumped. They'd never thought beyond the first stage of their argument.

'We are the angry mob, we read the papers every day, we like what we like, we hate what we hate but we're oh so easily swayed....'
I often find that individuals are intelligent. Their opinions may be different to mine but are generally thought through. However mob/crowd mentality is undeniably thick half the time.... Look at football hooligans. If you're lucky you'll find an individual in that but chances are they'll be so worried about what their peers think that all they'll do is rationalise what they're saying, which can be just as bad... 'I'm not racist but types.
My conclusion is that for all the individuals who I may or may not agree there are about ten more who are just weak minded and that includes those who have a brain but worry about their peers.
But then they say ignorance is bliss too.
